Gen. Hun Manet Closes Out CPP Campaign Season

PHNOM PENH: Gen. Hun Manet and his wife Pich Chanmony led the final parade of the Cambodian People’s Party election campaign on the final day of campaign season on July 21. The rally started in Koh Pich then meandered through the streets of Phnom Penh where the CPP chair and his wife exchanged smiles, flowers and party chants with thousands of supporters.

The march through town encountered some light rain, but that did not stop a sea of supporters dressed in powder blue and white from marching, riding mopeds and lining the streets to catch a glimpse of the party leaders. The procession had a party atmosphere with music and chants being blasted from speakers and participating school bands. CPP members danced on the streets while the party’s policies were highlighted through megaphones.

Speaking at the close of the rally, Gen. Hun Manet noted that the election campaign was conducted responsibly and strictly in accordance with the rules and procedures of Cambodian law. He was happy with supporter turnout and their warm welcoming that he said was worthy of a politically mature party.

Over the next two days, registered voters will return to their home precincts to vote on Sunday for one of 18 parties on this year’s ballot. Currently, the CPP holds all 125 seats in the National Assembly in addition to all 58 seats in the country’s Senate.
